About this page
Stock trades reported by members of Congress under the STOCK Act, with what each stock did afterward.
How to read it
- STOCK Act
- A 2012 law that requires members of Congress to report stock trades by themselves, a spouse or a dependent child within 45 days.
- Periodic Transaction Report (PTR)
- The form those trades are reported on. Amounts are given only as ranges, such as $1,001 to $15,000.
- Owner
- Member, spouse, joint or child, as written on the report.
- What happened next
- How the stock moved after the trade compared with the S&P 500. It measures timing, not the member's profit.
A real example
In 2020 several senators faced questions over stock sales made after private briefings on the coronavirus early that year. Those trades became public through the same STOCK Act reports this page is built from.
Explain it like I'm 13
Lawmakers write the rules for everyone, and some of them also own stocks. The law says they must tell the public when they trade, a bit like a referee who also plays having to show what bets he made. This page shows those notes.

Each purchase is measured from the week it was made to the member's next sale of the same stock, or to the latest price if they still hold it. Amounts are ranges, so this is the stocks' move, not the member's profit in dollars.
Trades reported since Jun 2, 2025 in the reports we have read. Older reports are being added.
What the stocks did next
Of 50 purchases we can measure after 6 months, 34 beat the S&P 500. On average the stock did 17.0 percentage points better than the index.
Of 20 sales we can measure after 6 months, 6 did worse than the S&P 500 afterward. On average the stock did 20.8 percentage points better than the index after the sale.
For each trade, the change in the stock's price from the week of the trade to the same window later, and the same change minus the S&P 500 (SPY). For sales, a fall afterward means the stock was sold before a drop.

Weekly prices from SEC fails-to-deliver data; the S&P 500 is measured with the SPY ETF. Exact trade prices and amounts are not disclosed, so these are the stocks' moves, not the member's profit. Dividends are not included, and windows with a likely stock split are skipped. A move after a trade does not mean the trade caused it. Past results do not predict future ones.

Green markers worked out (a purchase that rose, or a sale before a fall), red went against them, and hollow markers are purchases still held. Hover or tap a marker for the numbers.
